World Health Day: Celebrating Community Strength and Wellbeing

Each year on 7 April, World Health Day invites us to reflect on what it truly means to live well, and how strong, connected communities are at the heart of good health. For us, it’s also a moment to recognise the resilience, achievements and ongoing health journey of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community across the Moreton Bay region.

World Health Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the importance of equitable, culturally safe healthcare and to acknowledge the people behind every appointment, program and outcome – our clients, families, staff and community partners.

Supporting the Health of Our Community

Every appointment, home visit, outreach session and cultural program contributes to a broader goal: ensuring our Mob has access to the care, respect and opportunities they need to thrive.

Culturally Safe Care at the Centre

Cultural safety remains central to our service delivery. At Moreton ATSICHS, we recognise that health and wellbeing are shaped by culture, identity, family and connection to Country. Our teams work every day to:

  • provide holistic, wrap‑around services
  • empower individuals to take charge of their health
  • ensure care is respectful, inclusive and culturally responsive
  • enhance health literacy and support prevention pathways

World Health Day is a powerful reminder that good health is a right, not a privilege, and that culturally safe care is essential in improving long-term outcomes for our people.

Building a Healthier Future Together

Our community’s health journey continues to evolve, and so does our commitment. As we look ahead, we remain focused on expanding access to care, strengthening partnerships, and supporting our clients through programs that are grounded in culture and guided by community voices.

On World Health Day, we acknowledge and celebrate our clients, Elders, families, staff and supporters. Your strength and resilience inspire the work we do every single day.

Together, we can create a healthier, more connected future for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Moreton Bay.

Moreton ATSICHS acknowledges the Gubbi Gubbi, Turrbal, and Jinibara people as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, seas, and waterways where we work.  We pay respect to Elders past and present.

This website contains images, names, and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have passed away. With permission from their families, we have continued to use their images to acknowledge and honour their contributions in making our communities healthy and strong.
